3 Tips to Avoiding Dry Winter Skin
What is the first thing you think of when you hear the word winter? Is it “cold” or even to the other extreme, “hot bath”? For us, all we think about is the inevitable dry skin that winter seems to almost always cause.
So what is it about winter that causes our skin to become so dry? Temperature fluctuations from moving into and out of temperature controlled environments, dry air and harsh winds all tend to dry out the skin, depleting it of hydration and natural oils leaving your skin susceptible to invading chemicals causing redness, irritation as well as sensitivity and ultimately... dry :(
Extra hydration and the ability to lock this moisture into your skin is non-negotiable during the dry, winter months. And here are some more tips on how to achieve this...
1. Hydrate your skin - hydrated skin is a twofold approach...
Firstly, hydrate the skin using a water-based skincare product. These products provide the skin with the hydration it needs externally. You can hydrate the skin by using one of our Hydration Options:
Toner - our Toner includes nourishing and gentle ingredients to not only hydrate the skin but also help to repair and protect the skin; recommended for people with more sensitive skin;
Hydration Serum with Hyaluronic Acid - Hyaluronic Acid (HA) is a humectant so it helps attract moisture in the atmosphere to the skin providing maximum skin hydration! Hydration Serum also provides the skin with much needed nutrient ingredients.
2 Birds - is a combination of both the Hydration Serum and Toner so you get the best of both worlds!
Once you’ve hydrated, you need to lock in the moisture with an Oil Serum. This creates a barrier on the skin. You also receive the nutrient rich benefits of the Oil Serum.
2. Drink more water!
It’s kind of a given but healthy skin starts from within. Our bodies are made of 70 percent water, which keeps our cells plump and healthy. If you’re not drinking enough, your body (including your skin) gets dehydrated, which can make you look and feel shriveled. So, make sure you are drinking enough water — even if you don’t feel thirsty. If you really dislike drinking water, especially during the winter...try mixing it up and having some fun by drinking different types of herbal tea that you haven’t tried before.
3. Avoid long hot showers and the use of harsh bar soaps
Soaking in hot water and using harsh bar soaps can strip your skin of its natural protective oils… as we learnt earlier on, this leaves your skin susceptible.
We know, keeping on top of all of this can be overwhelming. However, the sooner you start the better - your skin will love you for it, especially in the chilli winter seasons. And you’ll feel so much better for it!
